History

Originally chartered in 1954 as the Northeastern North Carolina Board of REALTORS®, our local association lost its charter due to lack of members in the next few years.  In 1964, the Elizabeth City Board of REALTORS® was formed and granted a charter by the National Association of REALTORS® with a grand total of 11 members.  The jurisdiction of the Elizabeth City Board of REALTORS® originally consisted of mainland Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans, and Chowan Counties, and in 1974 Gates County was added to our jurisdiction.  In 1993, we started advertising as the Albemarle Area Association of REALTORS® with the legal name change coming in 2018.  In 2022, our membership has grown to almost 500 primary and secondary REALTOR® members with 900+ brokers in our multiple listing service.
